“Poupa: designação genérica de aves da família dos Upupídeos. As aves como a poupa (Upupa epops) são inconfundíveis graças à sua crista de penas eréteis que levanta quando se espanta ou excita. São aves migradoras que na primavera começam a chegar à Europa vindas de África.
Na Europa habitam os bosques e prados. Na orla dos arvoredos pousam nos ramos das árvores e descem para o solo à procura de alimentos. A sua alimentação é constituída por vermes, aranhas e outros pequenos animais que extraem com o bico comprido, ligeiramente curvo e mole.”
