A Arte Xávega é uma pesca tradicional baseada na utilização de uma rede de cerco envolvente, lançada ao mar e, posteriormente, alada para terra.
Com base no trabalho desenvolvido pelo Centro de Arqueologia de Almada e, mediante candidatura apresentada pela Câmara Municipal de Almada à Direcção Geral do Património Cultural, a Arte Xávega é, desde 16 de Fevereiro de 2017, parte integrante do Inventário Nacional do Património Cultural.
A recolha documental aqui presente resulta de um primeiro levantamento fotográfico sobre a pesca no território almadense que culminou, em Março de 2013, com uma exposição no Museu Naval de Almada, reiniciando um ciclo de programação temporária com abordagens temáticas às histórias, memórias e vivências dos locais.
Posteriormente e, durante alguns anos, procedi regularmente ao registo fotográfico desta arte de pesca, maioritariamente com o apoio e amizade da companha do “Rei dos Mares”.
Xávega Art is a traditional fishing method based on the use of a seine net, thrown into the sea and then hauled ashore.
Based on the work carried out by the Archaeology Center of Almada and, through an application submitted by the Municipal Council of Almada to General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Arte Xávega is, since February 16th 2017, an integral part of the National Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
The documentary collection presented here results from an initial survey photographic about fishing in the Almada territory that culminated in March 2013, with an exhibition at the Naval Museum of Almada, restarting a cycle of temporary programming with thematic approaches to stories, memories and experiences of the locals.
Later, for a few years, I regularly took photographs of this fishing art, mostly with the support and friendship of the “King of the Seas” company.
